Despite their loss, Pacifica Christian/Orange County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Caylie Villagrana, who scored 16 points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Villagrana hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Vivian Villagrana, who scored ten points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Aquinas entered their tilt with Corona with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Aquinas strolled past Corona with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 69-50. Given Aquinas' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Corona is ranked 310th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aquinas' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Breanna Bates, who scored 26 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madeleine De Kodia, who scored 13 points along with seven steals and five assists.
Pacifica Christian/Orange County's loss dropped their record down to 17-4. As for Aquinas, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pacifica Christian/Orange County have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Aquinas, though, as they've been averaging only 28.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
