The Deerfield Demons will challenge the Palmyra-Eagle Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Deerfield hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Monday just wasn't the day for Deerfield's offense. They lost 10-0 to Fennimore on Monday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palmyra-Eagle). They never let Lincoln Academy get on the board and left with a 23-0 victory on Friday. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Alex Harbison made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nathan Brodzik was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ryan Brodzik, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Palmyra-Eagle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Palmyra-Eagle is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Deerfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10-1.
Deerfield suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Palmyra-Eagle in their previous matchup on Thursday. Can the Demons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
