If the Mountain Empire Redhawks were feeling good off their 27-5 takedown of the King-Chavez Community Lions last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mountain Empire was the victim of a tough 40-15 loss at the hands of Warner on Tuesday. Mountain Empire lost against Warner in their previous head to head back in November, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 39-26 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Mountain Empire lost, one person who can't be blamed is Carli McGhee. Despite the final result, she scored nine points. McGhee scored a full 60% of Mountain Empire's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Bibi Caceres was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Mountain Empire's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Warner, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Mountain Empire will be home for the holidays to greet Foothills Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Foothills Christian is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Warner will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Borrego Springs at 4:00 p.m. on January 12, 2024.
