The Nordhoff Rangers will head out on the road to challenge the Cate Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nordhoff has three straight victories, Cate has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Nordhoff's win against Fillmore wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rangers skirted past the Flashes 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rangers have posted since March 18th.
Nordhoff saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Campbell Brandstrom, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Cate came up short against Thacher on Saturday, falling 14-3.
Alejandro Sandoval was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Meyer, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Nordhoff's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Cate, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
Cate's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Nordhoff has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cate, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Nordhoff keep running through batters, or will the Rams buck the trend?
Nordhoff skirted past Cate 8-7 when the teams last played back in February of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rangers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
