The Piedmont Community Charter Patriots will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Cherryville Ironmen at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Piedmont Community Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday.
Piedmont Community Charter scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They strolled past Highland Tech with points to spare, taking the game 83-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Bobby Erwin and Xavier Wilcher were among the main playmakers for Piedmont Community Charter as the former scored 19 points along with six steals and five rebounds and the latter scored 23 points. That's the first time this season that Erwin scored 15 or more points. John Carmichael was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Cherryville's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 65-40 walloping at the hands of Lincolnton. While losing is never fun, Cherryville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Lincolnton is ranked 45th).
The losing side was boosted by Darrien Floyd, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Piedmont Community Charter is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Cherryville, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.
Piedmont Community Charter suffered a grim 64-41 defeat to Cherryville when the teams last played back in February of 2021. Can Piedmont Community Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
