The Clovis Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Northgate Broncos at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Clovis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Clovis' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Oakmont 8-0. Considering the Cougars have won four matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Logan Georges tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maddox Merrill, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brock Hartmann, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Northgate earned a 4-0 win over Foothill on Tuesday.
Northgate also got a great performance from Brandon King as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 6.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave King a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
At the plate, Andres Zaragoza Roberts was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
Clovis has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Northgate, their record is now 9-3.
Northgate's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Clovis has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Northgate, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Clovis keep running through batters, or will the Broncos buck the trend?
