The Point Loma Pointers will be taking part in a tournament against the Grossmont Foothillers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Point Loma is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Point Loma's tournament run continued when they took on Eastlake on Tuesday. The Pointers came out on top against the Titans by a score of 5-2.
Johnny Bowes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Druw Frost was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Ben Waterman was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Grossmont came into Tuesday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Rancho Bernardo on Tuesday.
Grossmont also got a great performance from Jacob Holman as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Holman has become a key player for the Foothillers: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Max Tufugafale, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
Point Loma pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Grossmont, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Grossmont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Point Loma has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. It's a different story for Grossmont, though, as they've only averaged .326. Will they be able to contain Point Loma's hitters?
