The Marshall Barristers lost against the Arleta Mustangs back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Marshall was the victim of a rough 59-34 defeat at the hands of the Mustangs. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 807th, while the Mustangs are ranked 379th).
Marshall lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jeda Taylor, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Taylor is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Giselly Gaona, who scored eight points along with six steals.
Arleta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Justine Mejia, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Serpas, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Marshall has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Arleta, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-10.
Marshall will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bravo is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Arleta, they will head out on the road to challenge the Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
