The Santa Maria Saints's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a hard 45-30 fall against Cabrillo. While losing is never fun, Santa Maria can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 490th, while the Conquistadores are ranked 213th).
Despite the loss, Santa Maria still got an impressive performance from Nevaeh Madrigal, who scored ten points along with three steals. Madrigal hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Reyes, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Angeliyah Gonzalez went supernova for Cabrillo, scoring 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gonzalez has scored all season. Rylie Jenkins was another key contributor, scoring four points along with three steals.
Santa Maria has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-12 record this season. As for Cabrillo, they pushed their record up to 17-6 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santa Maria will take on the Royals at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Mission College Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday. As for Cabrillo, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Bearcats at 6:30 p.m.
