Baseball Recap: Exeter Wins Going Away Against Mendota

Exeter has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.28 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Mendota Aztecs as they made off with a 20-11 win. The result was nothing new for the Monarchs, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Owen Robertson and Cade McElmoyl did most of the damage at the plate: Robertson scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while McElmoyl scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs McElmoyl has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ivan Pepe, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Exeter's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Mendota, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Exeter and Mendota will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Monarchs see the field they'll take on Washington Union at 6:30 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Mendota, their break will end when they face Avenal at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
