The Kimball Jaguars struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (the Manteca Buffaloes had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Kimball received a tough blow as they fell 61-44 to the Buffaloes. While losing is never fun, Kimball can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 327th, while the Buffaloes are ranked 135th).
Despite the defeat, Kimball saw an underclassman step up: Emma Coronado scored 28 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrille Robinson, who scored five points along with four steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Manteca to victory, but perhaps none more so than Izabella Sanchez, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Sanchez hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Jada Ikharo was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Kimball's defeat dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Manteca, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kimball will face off against the Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Manteca, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. St. Mary's is on a six-game streak of home wins, the Buffaloes a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
