The Kennedy Thunderbirds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 50-27 walloping at the hands of Kern Valley. Kennedy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Kern Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Kennedy's loss came despite strong showings from Kayleen Maes and Jocelyne Maduena. Maes scored 9 points along with 13 rebounds, while Maduena scored 7 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Imaree Curry, who scored 6 points.
Kennedy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Kern Valley racked up 13.
Kern Valley found their leader in underclassman Jayda Bushling, who almost dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists. Bushling hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Jessie Bunting was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds.
Kennedy's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Kern Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Kennedy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Central Valley Christian at 2:30 p.m. on December 9th. As for Kern Valley, they will take on Strathmore at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
