The Johnson Ferry Christian Academy Saints will challenge the Harvester Christian Academy Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Having struggled with nine defeats in a row dating back to last season, Johnson Ferry Christian Academy turned things around against Cornerstone Prep Academy on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cornerstone Prep Academy, sneaking past 7-6. The Saints' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Will Tucker was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Miller, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Harvester Christian Academy waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Crusaders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted against the Crusaders since March 22, 2019.
Elijah Cowen looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Young, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Lleyton Tsai, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Harvester Christian Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Johnson Ferry Christian Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Johnson Ferry Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Harvester Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
