The Cypress Centurions were the 62-47 winner over the Crean Lutheran Saints when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Cypress took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Crean Lutheran on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Cypress can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 319th, while Crean Lutheran is ranked 140th).
Cypress' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lauryn Nakamura, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Isabella Caceres was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Cypress struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cypress now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Crean Lutheran, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-6.
Cypress will head out on the road to face off against Pacifica at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Crean Lutheran, they will be playing at home against Tustin at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
