It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They managed a 63-57 victory over the Wildcats. The win was all the more spectacular given Harvard-Westlake's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Windward is ranked 29th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Harvard-Westlake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Deana Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Thompson hasn't dropped below 19 points for three straight games. Jamie Yue was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
The win made it two in a row for Harvard-Westlake and bumps their season record up to 13-17. As for Windward, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-7.
Harvard-Westlake will be playing at home against Redondo Union at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Redondo Union will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Harvard-Westlake surely won't give up without a fight. Windward does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
