Academy for Academic Excellence is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Twentynine Palms 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since April 1st.
Bryson Lilly made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Academy for Academic Excellence let Nathan Rudd and Keegan Layton run wild. Rudd went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Layton went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave Layton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Carmona, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Academy for Academic Excellence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Nuview Bridge was able to grind out a solid victory over Santa Rosa Academy on Friday, taking the game 6-3.
The team relied heavily on Carson Lagor, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Nelson Lara was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Nuview Bridge pushed their record up to 15-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, their win bumped their record up to 15-9.
Academy for Academic Excellence skirted past Nuview Bridge 5-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2015. The rematch might be a little tougher for Academy for Academic Excellence since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
