The Hilton Cadets's and the Gates Chili Spartans's game on Saturday was close at halftime, but the Hilton Cadets turned on the heat in the second half with 55 points. Everything went Hilton's way against Gates Chili as Hilton made off with a 81-59 win. Given Hilton's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Gates Chili is ranked 632nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Gates Chili saw an underclassman step up: Joey Vigerzi scored 24 points along with two steals. Vigerzi is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Tremier Lewis was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Hilton and bumps their season record up to 8-4. As for Gates Chili, they bumped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road.
Hilton will face off against Rush-Henrietta at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Rush-Henrietta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Saturday. As for Gates Chili, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northeast/Northwest College Prep at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Northeast/Northwest College Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 252 points over their last four matches.
