Basketball Recap: Riverdale Baptist Comes Up Short

If Riverdale Baptist was riding high fresh off their 68-40 takedown of Digital Pioneers Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Riverdale Baptist Crusaders were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 51-50 to the Blue Ridge Barons. The Crusaders' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Riverdale Baptist lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ean McLaughlin, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds. Cannon Greene was another key player, putting up 14 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Riverdale Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Dreylan Creasy-Quirindoongo was his usual excellent self, going 10 of 17 on his way to 26 points for Blue Ridge. Those 26 points gave Creasy-Quirindoongo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Baur Lloyd, who posted nine points.

Riverdale Baptist's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Blue Ridge, they pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Riverdale Baptist wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-64 defeat against Fairfax Christian on the 17th. As for Blue Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-63 win against Stuart Hall on the 17th.
