Baseball Game Preview: Encinal Jets vs. Bishop O'Dowd Dragons

Encinal hasn't had much luck against Bishop O'Dowd recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Encinal will host Bishop O'Dowd at 4:00 p.m. Encinal is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Encinal took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Piedmont by a score of 8-5 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Darren Olson looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Encinal's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Wilson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Wilson is becoming a predictor of Encinal's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Another was Evan Furuichi, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Bishop O'Dowd fell victim to Castro Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 12-0 to the Trojans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Dragons have suffered since May 17, 2024.

Encinal is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Bishop O'Dowd's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5.

Encinal came up short against Bishop O'Dowd in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 5-1. Can Encinal avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
