In what's become a running theme this season, the Palm Desert Aztecs gave their fans yet another huge victory on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 42-16 margin over Palm Springs. The win was just what Palm Desert needed coming off of a 68-28 defeat in their prior match.
Palm Desert's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Katelyn Gallagher, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten steals. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which Gallagher has scored at least a third of Palm Desert's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alisha Blomgren, who scored ten points along with eight steals and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Palm Springs still got an impressive performance from Eiresslee Wells, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Miley Flores was another key contributor, scoring three points along with two steals.
Palm Desert's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Palm Springs, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 9-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palm Desert won't have much time to rest: their next game is against La Quinta at 5:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully La Quinta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 last Thursday. Palm Springs won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Shadow Hills at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Shadow Hills presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Palm Springs in California (Shadow Hills is ranked 102nd, while Palm Springs is ranked 975th).
