Hillgrove and McEachern are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2015, but not for long. The Hawks will host the Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
McEachern's offense is going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Hillgrove hadn't allowed a single point the last four times they've hit the field. The Hawks simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Campbell 54-0. The Hawks have beaten the Spartans the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.
Hillgrove's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Donovan Mack, who rushed for 48 yards and one score, and also threw for 120 yards and one TD while completing 80% of his passes. Ian Wilcox was another key rusher, rushing for 89 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hillgrove was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 181 rushing yards in six consecutive games.
Another reason for the win was Hillgrove's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. In that department, Jameson McCollough was the leader with two. Corbin Forbes was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making eight total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, McEachern was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Pebblebrook 51-14. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-7.
McEachern had a senior duo take command as Calvin Pittman Jr threw for 165 yards and three TDs while completing 88.9% of his passes and Henry Pullen rushed for 67 yards and a pair of scores. Pullen is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last six games he's played.
McEachern's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Hillgrove, their win bumped their record up to an identical 7-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Hillgrove has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 228.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like McEachern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 300.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Hillgrove was able to grind out a solid victory over McEachern when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 30-23. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
