The Mars Fightin' Planets will head out on the road to square off against the North Hills Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Mars focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.
Mars posted their closest win since December 2, 2023 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Shaler Area 41-38.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mars to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alexis Cashdollar, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Cashdollar has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Vita Vargo was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, North Hills can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They blew past New Castle 55-21 on the road. Given North Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 176th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 602nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mars now has a winning record of 10-9. As for North Hills, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-6.
Mars lost to the Indians on the road by a decisive 55-38 margin in their previous matchup back in January. Can Mars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
