Basketball Recap: Williams Comes Up Short

Williams played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Portola Tigers, falling 65-15. The defeat continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost six in a row.

Lupita Zuniga and Jennifer Vega Jimenez certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Zuniga posted seven points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, while Vega Jimenez earned no points. Zuniga is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Leading Portola to victory were Ellie Ferris and Kylie Morton. Ferris almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine steals, while Morton shot 41% from the field on her way to 24 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Those 24 points gave Morton a new career-high. Alison Berg also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Williams' record is now 0-14. As for Portola, with the win, they broke their ten-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-13.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Williams is set to square off against their familiar foe Maxwell at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Portola will take on rival Quincy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
