The St. Joseph Academy Crusaders will head out on the road to challenge the Torrey Pines Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Joseph Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, St. Joseph Academy suffered a tough 60-36 defeat at the hands of Bishop's. While losing is never fun, St. Joseph Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while Bishop's is ranked 213th).
St. Joseph Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Luciana Aguilar, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds, and Pamela Torres who scored 12 points along with four steals. Aguilar is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Angie Beath, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Torrey Pines' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of La Costa Canyon.
Torrey Pines' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Grace Trusso, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Lily Oliva who scored 14 points.
St. Joseph Academy has not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season. As for Torrey Pines, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-13.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: St. Joseph Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Torrey Pines struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. Joseph Academy came up short against Torrey Pines in their previous meeting back in November of 2021, falling 41-37. Can St. Joseph Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
