The Hoover Patriots will take on the Morro Bay Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hoover comes in on ten and Morro Bay on six.
Hoover is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Hanford by a score of 7-4. Seven seems to be a good number for the Patriots as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Geo Herrera was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lashawn Carey was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Chris Herrera, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Hoover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Morro Bay got the win against Mission Oak on Wednesday by a conclusive 10-3. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Eli Brown looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Quentin Crotts and Jack Deovlet did most of the damage at the plate: Crotts got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Deovlet went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Deovlet has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Wilkinson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Hoover's win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Morro Bay, their record is now 24-6.
