The Oak Park Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Oxnard Yellowjackets at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
Oak Park came into this matchup off a tough six-run loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of La Canada by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since February 14, 2024.
Oak Park got a good showing from Gary Gray, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gray has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Oak Park saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Goodheart, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Oxnard came into Thursday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Milken on Thursday. The Yellowjackets not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 22nd.
Carlos Rodriguez and Steven Lira did most of the damage at the plate: Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Lira went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave Rodriguez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Ramos, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Oxnard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Oak Park has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5-1 record this season. Oxnard's record now sits at 5-9.
Oak Park skirted past Oxnard 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Oak Park repeat their success, or does Oxnard has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
