The Concord Bears suffered their biggest loss since December 22, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Northgate on the road and fell 56-27. While losing is never fun, Concord can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 943rd, while Northgate is ranked 194th).
Despite the loss, Concord still got an impressive performance from Lamiyah Washington, who scored 16 points along with nine steals. That was a full 59.3% of Concord's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Concord struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Northgate pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
Northgate's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hana Neuman, who scored 20 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Neuman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddison Sardelich, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Concord and nudges their season record down to 5-13. As for Northgate, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Concord will take on Alhambra at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Northgate, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ygnacio Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Ygnacio Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
