The Quincy Trojans will take on the Chester Volcanoes at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Quincy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Quincy came up short against Hamilton on Monday, falling 9-3. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jake Thackeray put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Thackeray wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Reilly Vaughn, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Noah Wade was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Chester got the win against Burney on Thursday by a conclusive 18-11. The Volcanoes haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Grady Klimek was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Chism, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Chester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Chester's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Quincy, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Quincy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Chester struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Quincy's way against Chester in their previous matchup last Tuesday, as Quincy made off with a 23-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
