Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Carson Steele of
Center Grove (Greenwood) is the 2020 MaxPreps Indiana High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 200-pound senior running back ran for 1,659 yards and 31 touchdowns to lead the Trojans to a 14-0 record and Class 6A state title.
In the state championship game victory over Westfield, Steele toted the rock 29 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns. He posted eight 100-yard rushing performances, including a season high 181 yards in a playoff win over Warren Central.
Steele finished his Center Grove career with 5,907 yards and 82 touchdowns. Indiana's Mr. Football, he helped Center Grove make its sixth championship game appearance since 2000 and win its third state crown.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
