The Golden Sierra Grizzlies are on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Valley Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Golden Sierra beat Highlands 38-34.
Golden Sierra's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Skyler Tory led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 20 rebounds. Tory is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last nine games she's played. Zofia Bradford was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten steals and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They breezed by Western Sierra Collegiate Academy on the road to the tune of 56-14. Given Valley Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 409th, while Western Sierra Collegiate Academy is ranked 914th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Valley Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mariah Contreras, who scored 16 points. Contreras is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janet Donkor, who scored 15 points.
Golden Sierra pushed their record up to 9-12 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Valley Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
Golden Sierra skirted past Valley Christian 57-54 when the teams last played back in December of 2017. Will Golden Sierra repeat their success, or does Valley Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
