The Taft Wildcats waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. Everything went their way against Kennedy as Taft made off with a 47-23 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Taft has posted since December 8, 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Taft to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alaysia Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Taira Leota was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Kennedy saw an underclassman step up: Imaree Curry dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyne Madue?a, who scored six points along with three steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Kennedy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Taft racked up 11 assists.
Taft's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Kennedy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
Taft will head out on the road to face off against Shafter at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Shafter's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups. As for Kennedy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Delano at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Delano is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
