Given Godinez Fundamental's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Garden Grove is ranked 996th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Godinez Fundamental found their leader in underclassman Julissa Mota, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mota has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Daniela Vasquez, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Godinez Fundamental is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Garden Grove, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Godinez Fundamental's road trip will continue as they head out to face Segerstrom at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th. Segerstrom will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Garden Grove, they will head out on the road to take on Westminster at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
