Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monte Vista). They walked away with a 9-4 win over the La Jolla Vikings on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Monarchs as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Monte Vista got a great performance from Robert Vasquez as he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Monte Vista let Damian Ordaz and Reuben Cabugwas run wild. Ordaz scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Cabugwas scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Cabugwas also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
Monte Vista's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for La Jolla, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-5.
Coming up, Monte Vista will be taking part in a tournament against Francis Parker at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for La Jolla, they will take on Hilltop in a tournament on Friday.
