Basketball Game Preview: Overhills Jaguars vs. Triton Hawks

Overhills and Triton are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2022, but not for long. The Overhills Jaguars are taking a road trip to challenge the Triton Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Overhills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for Overhills against Harnett Central as the team secured a 72-16 win. With the Jaguars ahead 50-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Overhills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Najiha Allen led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 boards. Allen has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Paris Autry, who went 13 of 18 on her way to 30 points in addition to five assists and five steals.

Meanwhile, Triton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a blow against Terry Sanford, falling 88-31. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 370th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 17th).

Overhills is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Triton, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.

Everything came up roses for Overhills against Triton in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 77-47 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Overhills since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
