El Camino is 2-8 against Del Campo since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The El Camino Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Del Campo Cougars at 7:00 p.m. El Camino will be strutting in after a win while Del Campo will be coming in after a defeat.
El Camino posted their biggest victory since December 20, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 44-22 margin over Elk Grove. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-9.
El Camino can attribute much of their success to Kiena Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Noelle Potratz, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and two blocks. Potratz is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cosette Coles, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Del Campo's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Vista del Lago, falling 68-8. While losing is never fun, Del Campo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1101st, while Vista del Lago is ranked 124th).
El Camino's win bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Del Campo, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
El Camino took their win against Del Campo in their previous meeting on January 5th by a conclusive 51-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Camino since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
