Cypress is 10-0 against Pacifica since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Cypress Centurions will head out on the road to take on the Pacifica Mariners at 6:15 p.m. Hopefully Cypress focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Cypress came up short against Crean Lutheran and fell 55-45. While losing is never fun, Cypress can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while Crean Lutheran is ranked 126th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Lauryn Nakamura, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Isabella Caceres was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Cypress struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Even though Pacifica has not done well against Kennedy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Pacifica snuck past Kennedy with a 52-47 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Pacifica.
Cypress now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Pacifica, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.
Cypress beat Pacifica 45-35 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Cypress repeat their success, or does Pacifica have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
