The Verdugo Hills Dons's three-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They strolled past Eagle Rock with points to spare, taking the game 46-29. The win was all the more spectacular given Verdugo Hills' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 635th, while Eagle Rock is ranked 283rd).
Leading Verdugo Hills to victory were Amiyya Castanos and Rayleen Castanos. Castanos scored 22 points along with three steals and three blocks, while Castanos almost dropped a triple-double on 16 points, nine rebounds, and ten steals. The matchup was Castanos' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Lilly Opper was another key contributor, scoring six points.
The win got Verdugo Hills back to even at 5-5. As for Eagle Rock, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-3.
Verdugo Hills will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Saugus at 5:00 p.m. on December 15th. Saugus has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Eagle Rock, they will play host again and welcome Franklin, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Franklin is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
