The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks fell victim to the North Branch Vikings''s stalwart defense on Saturday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Vikings on the road and fell 28-0. Having soared to a lofty 48 points in the game before, Grand Rapids couldn't push the score so high this time.
North Branch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyler Minke, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on only five carries. Minke was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. North Branch also got a significant boost from Carter Drill, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 141 yards.
Grand Rapids' defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 5-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.2 points per game. As for North Branch, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Grand Rapids does not have any more games scheduled as of now. North Branch will face off against Hermantown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
