Piedmont Hills dropped their record down to 17-9 on Monday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Prospect Panthers, falling 13-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pirates have suffered since February 24th.
Travis Linane and Alex Tran stepped up to the plate in a big way. Linane went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Tran got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Linane is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Alex Bustamante also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Prospect, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
On Prospect's side, Caleb Entwisle and Jeremy Wang were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Entwisle pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Wang struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. What's more, Entwisle posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Entwisle went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Wang went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Kevin-Joseph Rieden was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Prospect is undefeated when Rieden posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
While Piedmont Hills had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
