Baseball Recap: Scotts Valley Comes Up Short

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Scotts Valley and St. Francis have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Scotts Valley Falcons fell just short of the St. Francis Sharks by a score of 9-8. One positive for the Falcons, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Kaleb Wing and Nick Acton put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wing pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Acton tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Wing a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At bat, Wing scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Acton scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That run marked the first that Wing scored this season.

In other batting news, Eli Velez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those hits marked the first that he got this season.

Scotts Valley's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-3. As for St. Francis, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Coming up, Scotts Valley will host Carmel at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Francis, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Soquel at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
