The Mallard Creek Mavericks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 69-62 to Hickory Ridge. While losing is never fun, Mallard Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Hickory Ridge is ranked 71st).
When it comes to explaining why Mallard Creek lost, one person who can't be blamed is Langston Boyd. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Boyd scored a full 38.7% of Mallard Creek's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenden Ridge, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Mallard Creek's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Hickory Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mallard Creek and Harding University will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hickory Ridge's road trip will continue as they head out to face A.L. Brown at 7:30 p.m. on January 3rd.
