The Village Christian Crusaders will head out to take on the Riverside Prep Silver Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Village Christian will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Milken on Thursday. Village Christian was the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Milken. The game marked the Crusaders' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Village Christian got a great performance from Noah Choe as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Johan Pelayo was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Nick Garcia also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Riverside Prep never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Claremont 14-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Silver Knights.
Jacob Villegas tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Adrian Jorge was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Andrew Logsdon, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Riverside Prep's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Village Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Village Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Riverside Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
