Basketball Recap: Rio Hondo Prep Comes Up Short

Rio Hondo Prep saw some tournament action on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 64-30 loss at the hands of the Anaheim Colonists. The Kares have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rio Hondo Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was TARA RILEY, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. RILEY's afternoon made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was ALLIE SCOTT, who posted six points and four steals.

Anaheim was led to victory by Melia Hinojos and Giselle Zambrano. Hinojos went 9 of 19 on her way to 21 points in addition to five assists and five steals, while Zambrano made all 7 shots she took to post 14 points and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Guzman, who put up six points along with six boards and four steals.

Rio Hondo Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Anaheim, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Rio Hondo Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 47-31 victory against Rosemead on the 30th. As for Anaheim, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-39 win against Whittier on the 30th.
