The Thayer Central Titans had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-28 victory over Superior. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Thayer Central has scored all year.
Thayer Central can attribute much of their success to Natalie Tietjen, who scored nine points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Havel, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Superior's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Halle Bargen, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Bargen pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sadie Cornell, who scored six points along with five steals.
Thayer Central's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. As for Superior, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Thayer Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Deshler at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th. Deshler's defense has only allowed 27 points per game this season, so Thayer Central's offense will have their work cut out for Thayer Central. Superior won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Fillmore Central on January 6th. Fillmore Central is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
