After two games on the road, Oak Grove is heading back home. They will take on the University Prep Academy Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Oak Grove was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to the Panthers. While losing is never fun, Oak Grove can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 516th, while the Panthers are ranked 225th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Emilie Ngo, who scored 15 points. That was a full 34.9% of Oak Grove's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Serena Martinez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, University Prep Academy suffered a tough 61-40 loss at the hands of the Lions on Thursday. University Prep Academy has not had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Oak Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for University Prep Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.
Everything went Oak Grove's way against the Golden Eagles when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the Eagles made off with a 69-45 victory. Does Oak Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
