Make it seven blowout wins for the Waynesburg Central Raiders this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Charleroi 56-29 at home. Given Waynesburg Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Charleroi is ranked 443rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Waynesburg Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Davis led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Davis pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaley Rohanna, who scored 24 points along with five assists.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Riley Jones, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Bella Carroto, who scored eight points.
Waynesburg Central's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 22.86 points. As for Charleroi, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.
Waynesburg Central will look to defend their home court on Thursday against McGuffey at 7:00 p.m. McGuffey is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.1 points per game. Charleroi will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Yough at 7:30 p.m. on January 4th.
