Pueblo County and Pueblo Central are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2021, but likely not for long. The Hornets will face off against the Wildcats at 12:15 p.m. on Friday. Pueblo County will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Pueblo County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Cheyenne Mountain, who was ranked 20th at the time (Pueblo County was ranked 24th). The Hornets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Red-Tailed Hawks on Friday, sneaking past 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted against the Red-Tailed Hawks since September 11, 2021.
The team relied heavily on Aubree Peralta, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Markus, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Pueblo Central got themselves on the board against Mead on Saturday, but Mead never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Mavericks with a sharp 10-0 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Sophia Perez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two triples, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Norah Montes, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Pueblo Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mead only posted an OBP of .118.
Pueblo Central's victory bumped their record up to 21-5. As for Pueblo County, their win bumped their record up to 18-6.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Pueblo County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Pueblo Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pueblo County came up short against Pueblo Central when the teams last played back in September, falling 11-6. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
