Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact the Meridian Mustangs proved on Saturday. They walked away with a 44-36 victory over Nebraska Lutheran. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Meridian also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Meridian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaira Niederklein, who scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds. Ana Dimas was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Nebraska Lutheran's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rebecca Hueske, who scored 18 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Endorf, who scored 7 points along with 8 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Meridian and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Nebraska Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Meridian will take on Cross County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cross County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Nebraska Lutheran, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against St. Edward at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully St. Edward focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Friday.
