Basketball Recap: Desert View Comes Up Short

Desert View was the 96-14 winner over Douglas when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Desert View Jaguars fell to the Douglas Bulldogs 75-70. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (58), the Jaguars still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Desert View still got an impressive performance from Luis Felix, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Those 21 points gave Felix a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Beavers, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 15 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Desert View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Douglas got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Diego Lopez out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Felix, who posted 23 points and six rebounds.

Desert View has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Douglas, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-7.

Desert View will be playing in front of their home fans against Nogales at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Douglas, they will venture away from home to challenge Catalina at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
