Baseball Recap: Mcclatchy Wins Going Away Against Cordova

After only two runs in their last match, McClatchy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cordova on Monday. The Lions put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Lions have won 11 games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Nico Chandler was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Everett Yeske looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Antonio Barber, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jace Martinez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

McClatchy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cordova only posted an OBP of .346.

McClatchy's record is now 18-5. As for Cordova, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-11-1.
